
Breakfast & Play Programs at the Better Beginnings Better Futures Community Centre,
Lansdowne and Queen Elizabeth II gives children a healthy breakfast, a place to do their
homework, play and connect with the staff. Between 260 and 300 children are served breakfast
on a daily basis.
After School Programs at the Better Beginnings Better Futures Community Centre, Cabot
Park and O'Connor Park provide children with nutritious food, cooperative play, arts and crafts.
The three after school programs accommodate 120 children between the ages of 4 and 8.
Summer Programs at the Better Beginnings Better Futures Community Centre, Cabot Park
and O'Connor Park provides nutritious food, cooperative play, field trips and arts and crafts. The
four summer programs accommodate 160 children between the ages of 4 and 13.
Peaceful Playgrounds is offered at St. David's school and Queen Elizabeth II. It's objective
is to introduce co-operative ways of play and encourage ways of solving problems and conflicts.
It also encourages children to introduce these games and ways of playing into their
neighborhood. The program is offered to 200 children.
Pre-teen After School Program is offered at St. Gabriel's school for children between the
ages of 9 and 13. This program is offered in both French and English. A healthy snack is
provided, they are provided with the materials to do arts and crafts, a place to do their homework
and learn life skills. The program accommodates 60 children between the ages 9 and 13.
Community Development: Our community development workers respond to the needs of
the neighbourhood, relieve stress through parental support, advocates on behalf of families
within the school system, encourages child-adult interaction and provides information to
emergency resources, educational, social and health services in the area. They offer
programming and support to the many different cultures in the area and promote equal access for
all socio-economic groups.
L'Arc-en-ciel is a francophone mom and tots drop-in program and has been identified as an
Early Years Satellite for the Sudbury area.
Traveling Road Show encourages community awareness, offers parents with pre-schoolers
an opportunity to meet other parents and to plan and deliver programs and activities, which
benefit their families.
Community Closet is filled with donated items (clothing, household goods), which is
available to the community at no charge. A safe and confidential place where community
members can meet and access other community resources. The community closet is open to the
public every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Baby's Breath provides discussion groups to help identify challenges pregnant teenagers and
their partners face, increase their knowledge of child growth and development, access to
parenting resources, workshops and community resources. It offers nutritional support for
themselves and their babies.
