The corporation of Sudbury Better Beginnings Better Futures purchased the old St. Gabriel
School at 450 Morin Street, from the School Board. This building has become a community
center in the Flour Mill area. The 'Better Beginnings Better Futures Community Center' houses
the following programs: a breakfast program, two after-school programs, Aboriginal and
Francophone parent and child support program, the administration offices for Better Beginnings,
office space for the 'Hands for Nature Project', office space for the 'Myths and Mirrors
Community Arts Project', a space for many community gatherings, clubs, workshops and
reunions. The 'Better Beginnings Better Futures Community Center' is the hub of activity for the
Flour Mill/Donovan Community.
The corporation is planning on becoming very active in fundraising over the next several years to generate dollars to make the yearly mortgage payments on the building and to do much needed repairs such as:
a) replace the roof
b) replace the north-east wall
c) replace the windows
d) upgrade the electrical system
e) upgrade the heating system
f) interior renovations
