Profile: Todd Bertuzzi was selected 2nd overall in the DHHL's inaugaral
draft by the Peterborough Smoke Eaters. Bertuzzi was impressive right from the
start of his career, helping to lead Peterborough to the league finals in each
of the DHHL's first three seasons, finally culminating in a Die Hard Cup in
DHHL3. Todd then had a couple of average campaigns in DHHL4-5, before returning
to near 50 goal pace in DHHL6, which meant a second Die Hard Cup added to his
resume.
Bertuzzi continued his solid play in Peterborough, notching another 85 goals
in the next two seasons, when in a move that shocked the entire league, he was
traded. A little known "small print" clause was given to GM Tim Kastelle of
Peterborough in DHHL2 when he was given the reigns of PSE/PAS that should GM
Trainor return to a team, he would have first dibs on acquiring Bertuzzi. With
DHHL8 seeing the creation of the Capreol Cobras, a deal was struck sending
Desjardins to PAS for Bertuzzi.
Bertuzzi wasted little time in once again jumping to a high level of play,
scoring 46 goals and 87 points for Capreol in DHHL8. He had another 25 points in
20 playoff games and was the Conn Smythe runner up to Amonte in Capreol's DHHL8
cup run. After the championship in season 8, Todd saw his ice time, and
productivity begin to sag from its previous stellar levels. He was able to
capture his 4th Die Hard Cup in DHHL10 with Capreol however, with the Cobras
using younger players, Todd decided to seek fame elsewhere. Before DHHL12
started, he was traded to Toad Suck in a 4 player deal. He went on to score 56
goals over 2 seasons for the Toasters, before hanging up his skates at the end
of DHHL13.
Bertuzzi retired with 4 Die Hard Rings, 4 40 goal seasons, 5 80 point
seasons, and a stellar Art Ross winning 51-40-91 season in DHHL2. He also
amassed an impressive 3321 PIMS in his regular season career, and another
462PIMS in the playoff games found for him.
