Mile 0 Cartier Subdivision (North Bay) to mile 69.1 (Coniston) leased to and operated by Ottawa Valley Railway (a RailAmerica company).

OPERATIONAL OVERVIEW:

West End (Cartier):

- All regular trains(both directions) stop for a crew change at Cartier, Ontario (mile 113). Cartier is the western terminus of the subdivision.

East End (Coniston/Romford):

- Ottawa Valley Railway operates Canadian Pacific trains between Smiths Falls and Coniston with running rights to Cartier. These trains enter/exit CPR territory at Coniston (mile 69.1).

The next crew change point to the east for Canadian Pacific trains is in Ottawa Valley territory at North Bay, Ontario (mile 0, the start of the Cartier subdivision). A North Bay Ottawa Valley crew will operate a Canadian Pacific train west to Cartier, change off, then operate an eastbound Canadian Pacific train back home to North Bay; a day's work (give or take). Depending on circumstances, sometimes a taxi is used to transport crews between North Bay and Cartier. Running time between North Bay and Cartier is usually approximately four hours. The crew is changed and the train proceeds eastward from North Bay to Chalk River and on to Scott (Smiths Falls), where CPR again takes control.

- All north/south trains on the Parry Sound subdivision enter/exit at Romford (mile 72.3 Cartier subdivision; mile 121.7, the end of the Parry Sound subdivision).

The next crew change point to the south is Mactier, Ontario (mile 0, the start of the Parry Sound subdivision). Running time between Cartier and Mactier is approximately four hours.

Under normal circumstances, trains do not crew change at Coniston or Romford).
