Mike Macdonald Hogger... Chapleau Started railroading in 1981 in Chalk River diesel shops, moved on to section and track gangs, running trades in 1985 in North Bay, Sudbury and then Chapleau. I recognize many names on your site. (Ya thats you fox horn leg horn... BDB). And you also Reg Fitzpatrick I hooped a few lists off of you at Franz and was happy to see your name on here. Still working the Nemegos and White River subs for a few more lonely nights... ..great site.
Marty Phillips Parksville, BC (ne Ottawa, ON) This has to be one of the best railroad websites I have ever visited. Thank you for doing it. I recognize some of the areas in the photos from personal railfanning trips over the years. I am modelling CP Rail's Lyndonville Sub through St Johnsbury VT circa mid to late 70s.

George W Horsman Brandon Manitoba Great web site, looking at the trains bring back memories, when I was a kid, raised in Moncton N B, we would get the train in the summer months to go from Moncton to Shediac to go to the beach, riding the train was great, also seeing the engineer and the fireman in their striped coveralls and cap matching ,the good old days, I went from Moncton to British Columbia, but it was on a diesel train,it was nice sleeping on the train ,the clicking of the rails at night time, and getting up in the morning and having breakfast, and meeting lot of people, well I must go now I can write more but i dont want to write a book.

Buck Goegan Ajax, Ont. I worked as a sectionman for my father in the village of Ramsay, on the Cartier-Chapleau Subdivision, 1944. As a condition of employment, I had to hide in the bush or a culvert whenever a train passed because I was underage and the roadmaster didn't want officials to see kids working on the railroad. My father had to sign for responsibility for me.

Dixie Miner McIlwraith Vancouver, BC My father, Dick Miner, was the District Claims Agent for the CPR in Sudbury from 1950 to 1955. My brothers and I always felt we had a special relationship with the CPR because of our Dad and because of the trips we took back to St. Louis by train. Our last night in Canada he arranged for us to take the train up to North Bay in the middle of winter. The sight outside the windows of the club car of the moon lit snow fields of northern Ontario was one of the loveliest memories I will ever have. I don't miss Sudbury but I will always have a special feeling for the CPR.

John Burns Winnipeg, MB. As a youth during the war I lived in Sudbury and saw all the action of the steam engines. I remember when there was D and H steam engines leased for some of the ore jobs. Also I saw the first test deisel come in with the dynomometer car. It was an Alco road switcher, I think around 1948. There was a big coal shute west of the station for mainline trains. Frequently they double headed trains west and the racket at Elm Street was something because of the enclosed spaces. A D10 fell over on its side under the old bridge and it was a mess to raise. jcb

Pat Carriere St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec Hello! Very nice page! I can relate to your comments about growing up near the railway: I grew up in Winnipeg, MB and for 18 years lived 500 yards from the main CP line to the US, 1/2 mile from the CN mainline and 1 mile from the CP mainline. Needless to say, I've seen alot of traffic! However, I have just spent 6 1/2 years in Victoria, BC. Nice place but no trains! Now that I'm here, just 20 minutes from Montreal, I intend on getting into some serious railfanning. Any tips? I just obtained a copy of the trackside guide today and I already have a scanner. What next? Keep up the good work. Cheers! Pat Carriere

John Binley Winnipeg (Canada) Wayne - Nice web-page - made me homesick and nostalgic. Not that I've ever lived in Sudbury (or area), but have been through there many times on #1 and #2, at least before they gutted the service in 1990. I remember how you used to know you were in Sudbury travelling west; the train would be moving back and forth as they consolidated #1 with #11, and no major shaking, either.. Again, great page. I'll make a point of checking back every now and then for the pictures/news. Regards, John
