How to Calculate Amount Required
PLEASE NOTE: TAPE IS SOLD BY PACKAGE
Strips are 2" x 36".
It is easy to find the amount of packages you will require. First you will need to know the width of the ribs or cap strips of your project. If there are different widths calculate each seperately.
The tape comes in 2" x 36" strips and quantity differs by scale.
1. Start by dividing the stitching tape 2" width by your rib width to find out how many strips the width of the ribs you will get. Here we will use 1/4" (.25") for the rib width. This result will be used in step 4. Sample: 2 ÷ .25" = 8
2. Count the number of ribs to be stitched and multiply that by 2 since both sides will be stitched.
Sample: 32 x 2 = 64 rib surfaces
3. Measure the cord (rib length) to be stitched and mulitiply that by the rib surface result above. Here we will use 15".
Sample: 64 x 15" = 960"
4. Now use the result from step one. Divide that amount into the above result.
Sample: 960" ÷ 8 = 120"
5. Next, find out how many 2" x 36" strips are required. Divide the above result by 36" (length of the stitching tape).
Sample: 120" ÷ 36" = 3.33 strips
In simple form it will look like this:
64 x 15" = 960"
960" ÷ 8 = 120"
120" ÷ 36" = 3.33 strips
6. Last, you need to know how many packages you require. Compare the amount of strips from the result above to the quantity per package of the scale required from below.
Quantities per package:
1/6 scale = 2 strips/pkg
1/5 scale = 3 strips/pkg
1/4 scale = 4 strips/pkg
1/3 scale = 6 strips/pkg
Here we will require 1/4 scale. There is 4 strips per package and the result was 3.33 strips, so one package will be enough and have little left over.
Be sure to have enough left over incase of mistakes or problems.
