Single Parent Adopters

Single Parent Adopters of Ontario

WHO ARE WE?

SPA—Single Parent Adopters. Our membership consists of singles thinking about adopting, singles ‘in process’, singles who have adopted and singles pursuing a second (or third or fourth) adoption.

ON-LINE DISCUSSION GROUP

SPA's primary means of communication is our on-line discussion group. This provides a forum for members to exchange ideas, advice and support. We have informal, family-oriented get-togethers several times a year. Those who do not yet have children are also encouraged to attend. For information about the on-line group, please contact Heather Keillor at (905) 939-8441.

WHY A GROUP FOR SINGLE ADOPTIVE PARENTS?

  1. Thinking about adoption can be confusing. Is it right for me? Is this the best time? What kinds of children can I adopt? Where should I go—local, international, public or private? Meeting and talking to others can sort out issues like these.
  2. Being single ‘in process’ can be stressful. It helps to know others who are also waiting.
  3. Keeping it all together as a single parent isn’t always easy. Support and education are valuable.
  4. Our children have an opportunity to form friendships with others from similar families.
