Loft

What is it and what does it do?

Loft is one of those things that a lot of people new to LinksLS don't know about.  And yet, it is so important.  Anyone who plays and wins, changes loft constantly.  Probably on the majority of shots.
You may have noticed that most shots aren't of a distance that is identical to how far any of your clubs hit.  So, some try to take a little off or add a bit and put it close.  Well, that is a dubious method, at best.  If your snap is not right on the money, you'll be hitting the bush.  And if it is, you probably won't have the distance that you intended.  Which is where loft comes into play.   It is the angle of the clubface.  The higher the loft, the less distance the ball travels and the more backspin is present.  Lower loft means more distance and more roll.
When playing the game, open your bottom control panel and click on the two footprints.  This will open the shot setup window.  Loft is changed by clicking above or below the golfball slider in this dialog box.  Each click above makes the club hit 5 yards shorter and each below adds 5 yards of distance.  For example, if you had a shot of 105 yards, you would select a sand wedge and subtract one loft.  Or select a pitching wedge and add two loft.  This would depend on personal preference and the slope of the green.  If the green slopes away from you and the ball will tend to run, then use a club where you can add loft to give it more backspin and a better chance of stopping.  If the slope is towards you, then, you don't want increased backspin and would select a club where you can increase the roll, and not suckback off the green.
